Conscience centres on Bella, a woman held in an interrogation room, accused of murder. The evidence against her is overwhelming – but is the truth really that simple? As the questioning deepens, the line between reality and perception begins to blur, and Bella’s story becomes more complex than anyone expected.
The play was developed through a research project exploring true crime and women’s mental health in the 1960s, uncovering how gender, psychology, and justice intersected in a time of institutional control and societal silence.
Conscience was staged for a two-night run at The Cockpit Theatre and invited audiences to question not just what happened, but why and at what cost.
